How do I get a US passport in a hurry?

The question of how long it takes to get a passport depends on a few variables which include the number of applications that Passport Services has to process at the time you apply, the location you apply and the date of your departure. Take a look at each one of these and determine how they can affect the time it will take you to get a passport.

Passport applications can be processed 3 ways in the United States (for a US Passport).

  1. Apply at a local post office or clerk of the court.  In many cases, you'll need to make an appointment, then the acceptance agent sends your application to a regional passport agency for processing.  You can check with the State Department on current processing times.  Typically they are 5-6 weeks and 6-8 weeks during peak times.
  2. Apply at a regional passport agency, but only if you are traveling within the next 2 weeks.  This requires appearing in person at the agency.  Evidence of a departure date within two weeks is required or within four weeks if you also need to obtain a travel visa.
  3. Use an authorized passport expediting service like us and we can acquire a passport for you as fast as in 24 hours.  For more information on our expediting services, click here to visit our US passport services section.
