What is an Australian ETA visa?

The Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visa is a travel document that is electronically linked to your passport. It's a mandatory document for approved entry into the country for non-Australian citizens. This visa can be obtained from any online travel agent or the airport. It's appropriate for tourism or business visitor activities only.

How long is an Australian ETA visa valid for?

The Australian ETA visa is valid for one year after it's issued. Visitors with the visa can enter the country for a maximum of 90 days per entry but are granted multiple entries. As the visa is only for tourism or business, visitors with this visa cannot seek paid employm

How long does it take to get an Australian ETA visa?

It takes approximately 10 minutes to apply for the visa online. Once you've applied, about 90% of applications are approved automatically. However, processing times can be extended if:

  • You have a criminal record

  • Your application is referred to the Australian High Commission

  • You have submitted false information on the application

Your application approval is emailed to you.

How much does an ETA to Australia cost?

Once in Australia, how long can I visit?

Once you enter the country, you can stay for a maximum of three consecutive months (90 days). However, the visa allows for multiple entries. So, withing the 12-month approval period for the visa, you can enter and leave the country multiple times.

What activities can I do in Australia with an ETA visa?

An Australian ETA visa is only for tourist and business purposes. You are not allowed to take on paid employment with this visa. You can attend conferences, business meetings, and tourist activities. You can study with this visa as long as you don't stay in the country for more than 90 days at a time and leave within one year.

Do I need to print my e visa for Australia?

We strongly encourage you to print a copy of your Australian ETA visa for peace of mind.  That said, you don't need to print anything  as the the e visa is electronically attached to your passport so airline and immigration staff will see it when they scan your passport.

What are the documents required to apply for an Australian ETA visa?

To apply for an Australian ETA visa, you must have:

  • A passport that will be valid for three months after your visa expires.

  • A passport that is from an ETA-eligible country or region

  • The information page of your passport for a passport scan

  • Passport number of anyone you will be travelling to Australia with

  • An email address for the visa approval confirmation

  • A form of payment
