Do I need a visa to visit Madagascar as a tourist?

Yes. Every visitor needs a tourist visa for Madagascar, unless you hold a Malagasy passport or a Malagasy resident card. The easiest way is the official tourist eVisa, which every nationality can apply for online before travelling. PassportsAndVisas.com can complete the application for you. You can also buy a visa on arrival at the airport, but having your eVisa ready means less waiting when you land. Bring a passport valid for more than 6 months and a return ticket.

How long does it take to get a Madagascar eVisa?

The government issues the landing authorisation within 72 hours after your application is validated. It arrives by email. Print it or keep it on your phone, then show it at the eVisa counter when you land, where the visa is placed in your passport. Apply a few days ahead to leave room for any corrections.

How much does the Madagascar eVisa cost?

The government fee depends on how long you stay: $35 for up to 15 days, $41 for 16 to 30 days, $47 for 31 to 60 days and $59 for 61 to 90 days. The 15-day fee went up in February 2026, so older guides quoting $10 are out of date. Diplomats and staff of certain organisations don't pay the fee.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Madagascar instead of an eVisa?

Yes. Tourist visas are also issued at the airport or port when you arrive in Madagascar, or at a Malagasy embassy before you travel. The eVisa simply means your paperwork is approved before you fly, so you can use the dedicated eVisa counter. Whichever route you choose, carry a passport valid for more than 6 months, a return ticket and, if you were in a yellow fever country in the six days before arriving, your vaccination certificate.

How long can I stay in Madagascar on a tourist eVisa, and can I extend it?

The tourist eVisa is single entry. You choose your length of stay when you apply (15, 30, 60 or 90 days), and it starts on your arrival date. If your plans change and you need more time, you can extend your visa at the Immigration office in Madagascar, up to a total of 90 days. Because it's single entry, leaving Madagascar ends your visa, and you'll need a new one to come back.

Madagascar eVisa for Singaporean Citizens — What You Need to Know

Singaporean citizens need a visa for Madagascar. To enter Madagascar you need: a valid passport, eVisa required, Return ticket (billet aller et retour), Certificat de vaccination contre la fièvre jaune.

Visa Policy

Madagascar eVisa Policy for Singaporean Citizens

Madagascar's visa policy for Singaporean citizens requires advance application before travel. The electronic visa (eVisa) system was introduced to streamline the process — replacing the previous embassy-only application for most Singaporean travelers. The eVisa allows online application without visiting a consulate, with approval typically issued within 1–10 business days. The government fee of $35 is set by Madagascar immigration authorities and is subject to change. PassportsAndVisas.com monitors policy updates daily and will notify you of any fee changes after your application is submitted.

Singaporean citizens should apply for their Madagascar visa at least 13 days before departure to allow time for processing and any document corrections. Rush processing is available for travelers with imminent departure dates. The 15 Days Tourist eVisa is issued, and the 60-day stay period begins on arrival.

Travel Context

Traveling to Madagascar from Singapore — What to Know Before You Go

Planning a trip to Madagascar from Singapore involves a few key logistics beyond the visa. Direct flights are available from major Singapore hubs to Madagascar's main international airports, with flight times varying depending on your departure city. We recommend booking refundable tickets until your visa is approved — PassportsAndVisas.com's service fee is charged only after visa approval, so you are not committed financially before your visa is confirmed.

Passport preparation is the most important step. Your Singapore passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining beyond your departure date from Madagascar, and at least 2 blank pages for entry stamps. If your passport is expiring soon, PassportsAndVisas.com can expedite Singapore passport renewal — often faster than standard government processing times.

Once your Madagascar eVisa is approved, you will receive a PDF confirmation by email. Print this document and carry it with your passport — some Madagascar border officials require a physical copy, even for eVisas. Save a digital backup on your phone as well. Your visa details will also be linked to your passport number in Madagascar's immigration database.

Application Guide

What Singaporean Citizens Need Before Applying

Applying for a Madagascar visa as a Singaporean citizen through PassportsAndVisas.com takes 5–10 minutes online. You will need your Singapore passport (valid for 6+ months), a digital passport photo meeting Madagascar's exact specifications, and your travel dates. Our system guides you through each field and flags potential errors before submission.

The most common reason Singaporean citizens face Madagascar visa rejection is passport photo non-compliance. Madagascar requires a white background, the size shown on the government portal dimensions, taken within the last 6 months, with no glasses. Our proprietary photo-check system automatically validates your photo against Madagascar's requirements before we submit — catching the errors that cause the majority of preventable rejections.

After submission, your application is reviewed by a Singaporean-specialist on our team — someone familiar with the specific patterns that trigger scrutiny for Singapore passport holders. We submit to Madagascar Immigration within 2 hours of receiving your complete file. You will receive email updates throughout the process, and your approved visa PDF will be delivered to your inbox — typically within 1–10 business days.
